Texas Is the Reason emerged in the mid-1990s as a band of the post-hardcore/early emo movement, blending melodic urgency with emotional directness. Based in New York City, the band contributed to a sound that influenced later artists while remaining rooted in the DIY ethos of the era.
Their 1996 debut album, Do You Know Who You Are?, was released on Revelation Records. As the band's profile grew and major-label attention mounted, Texas Is the Reason disbanded in 1997.
In the years since, the album has been cited by artists across punk, emo, and indie rock.
Texas Is the Reason reunited for select live performances in 2025, including appearances at Riot Fest and Best Friends Forever Festival. In 2026, the band tours internationally for the 30th anniversary of Do You Know Who You Are?, performing material from their catalog.
