The Wailers

Born in early‑60s Kingston around Bob Marley, Bunny Wailer and Peter Tosh, the group first cut its teeth in the ska and rocksteady era at Studio One, sharpening close harmonies fed by gospel and rhythm and blues. As the sound slowed and deepened, work with producer Lee “Scratch” Perry and the Barrett brothers, Aston “Family Man” and Carlton, set the steady low-end and drum patterns that would anchor their reggae approach and shape everything that followed. Island Records then pushed their songs far beyond Jamaica, taking the music onto international stages.
