Biréli Lagrène

On August 13, 2026, at the Théâtre Robinson in Mandelieu-la-Napoule, Biréli Lagrène appears in a quartet for an evening focused on the essentials: sound, phrasing and collective listening. Spotted at a very young age by Matelot Ferré, a longtime associate of Django Reinhardt, the guitarist has since traced a flexible line between gypsy swing, bebop and touches of fusion, without confining himself to a label. His forthcoming album, Elegant People, extends the more stripped-back momentum of Solo Suites: precise writing, motifs that breathe, and an attention to nuance as well as silence.

Around him, Jean-Yves Jung on piano and Rhodes stretches out fluid harmonies, William Brunard anchors the band with a resonant, singing double bass, and Raphaël Pannier opens up space on the drums. The group moves forward through dialogue, circulates themes, and exploits contrasts between briskness and suspension. Between nods to his roots and more contemporary territories, Biréli sculpts a direct, flexible style of playing in which melody guides the improvisation.
