On 29 January 2027, Electric Ballroom in London hosts a meeting of modern metal: Sylosis and Whitechapel join forces, with 200 Stab Wounds in support. Three approaches to heaviness, three distinct signatures, one stage.
Whitechapel, from Knoxville, built a deathcore sound around a three-guitar attack with Phil Bozeman’s growl at the centre. From The Somatic Defilement and This Is Exile to The Valley and Kin, the band has shifted from blast-led ferocity toward tighter grooves, sharper dynamics and occasional clean vocals, without losing the weight that grounds their songs.
Sylosis, formed in Reading around guitarist-vocalist Josh Middleton, blends thrash speed, melodic death metal hooks and a taste for progressive structures. Riffs stack and unwind, twin-guitar harmonies cut through, and the newer material, from Cycle of Suffering to A Sign of Things to Come, balances urgency with darker, more textured writing.
Cleveland’s 200 Stab Wounds completes the bill with a direct, old-school-leaning death metal. Early releases on Maggot Stomp set the tone; Slave to the Scalpel and Manual Manic Procedures sharpen it with compact songs, tempo shifts and thick low end. Expect tight rhythms, low tunings and precision riffing.
