Phantogram

Phantogram is the New York duo of Sarah Barthel and Josh Carter, a tight blend of electronic pop, indie rock and trip‑hop shades. Starting out as Charlie Everywhere before settling on Phantogram, they built their sound on hip‑hop‑rooted rhythms, textured guitars and synth layers, with the push‑and‑pull between Barthel’s lead voice and Carter’s interventions at the core. Eyelid Movies set the template in 2010, Voices in 2014 widened the frame without losing the pop focus, and Three in 2016 leaned into darker tones. Along the way came Big Grams with Big Boi, then Ceremony in 2020, where melodic lines share space with rougher edges.

On stage, the pair folds saturated synths, tight beats and guitar grit into concise songs that shift from nocturnal tension to sharp hooks. Barthel’s lines cut through, Carter answers with grain and loops, and the interplay keeps the tracks moving without drowning the melodies. The set roams across their catalog, linking early haze to later punch, with samples, pads and bass anchoring the momentum. Phantogram plays Manchester Academy in Manchester on 6 July 2026.
