Eric Johnson

Eric Johnson brings his guitar voice to The Brook in Southampton on 27 July 2026. Based in Austin, he has spent decades shaping instrumental music that moves between rock, blues and jazz fusion, with touches of country picking and folk. Known for a precise touch, clear articulation and carefully voiced harmonies, he shifts with ease from energetic trio pieces to quiet acoustic moments.

After early days in the jazz-rock group The Electromagnets and work as a session player, Johnson began his solo path with Tones (1986) and Ah Via Musicom (1990). The instrumental Cliffs of Dover from that period earned him a Grammy and became a fixture in his repertoire. The journey continued with Venus Isle, Bloom, Up Close and the more stripped-back EJ, then two 2022 releases, The Book of Making and Yesterday Meets Today. He has also collaborated with Mike Stern on Eclectic and joined Joe Satriani and Steve Vai in the G3 project.

On stage, expect melodic themes, elastic grooves and detailed dynamics, from lyrical instrumentals to blues-inflected cuts, alongside newer pieces that show where his writing is headed today.
