Beat - Performing the music of 80's King Crimson

Info

On 7 June 2026 at University of Wolverhampton at The Halls in Wolverhampton, BEAT revisits the taut, inventive repertoire King Crimson carved in the early eighties. At the center is Adrian Belew, singer-guitarist of that era, whose elastic phrasing, incisive melodies and taste for odd textures shaped Discipline, Beat and Three of a Perfect Pair. Coming from stints with Frank Zappa, David Bowie and Talking Heads, Belew brings the voice, the lyrics and the jagged guitar vocabulary that defined that cycle.

Opposite him, Steve Vai folds his own rigorous sense of rhythm and harmony into the interlocking-guitar design that marked those albums. From Zappa to David Lee Roth and a long solo path, Vai honed a style that balances clarity, velocity and detail; within BEAT he leans into pattern, pulse and tight counterpoint, serving pieces where groove and geometry lead the way.

The set focuses on the Discipline/Beat/Three of a Perfect Pair era: clipped guitar figures, polyrhythms, spoken fragments and spacious instrumentals, reframed by two players steeped in progressive rock and rhythmic experimentation.
