Info
GHOSTWOMAN, the project steered by Canadian multi-instrumentalist Evan Uschenko and Belgian drummer Ille van Dessel, lands at The Cluny in Newcastle upon Tyne on 8 September 2026. On stage, the duo keeps it lean: rust-bitten guitars, dry, driving drums and songs that lock into a pulse rather than chase a climax. Their fourth album, Welcome to the Civilized World, fuels the set with new material cut on tape and guided by instinct. The words sit like fragments and textures; the weight is in the groove, in the push-and-pull between psych-grunge haze, decaying Americana and a tight post-punk edge.
Born in an abandoned farmhouse in Alberta and sharpened across Canada and Belgium, GHOSTWOMAN works with gear that already has a life in it, recording fast and moving on. Tracks like 5 Gold Pieces and Alive carry that method: first takes, minimal polish, a feel that sticks. Live, the pair channel this rough clarity into hypnotic repetition, small shifts and sudden jolts, letting the guitars snarl while the drums keep the line. It’s a compact, no-filler approach that suits rooms like The Cluny and a night built for those who like their rock direct, unvarnished and a little opaque.
