The Stylistics

The Stylistics bring Philadelphia soul to Aylesbury on 8 November 2026 at Aylesbury Waterside Theatre. Formed in 1968 from North Philly outfits the Monarchs and the Percussions, the group shaped a blend of orchestral soul, soft R&B and vocal pop. Early on, their partnership with arranger Thom Bell and lyricist Linda Creed forged a signature built on high-register leads and tight harmonies, heard on Stop, Look, Listen, You Are Everything, Betcha by Golly, Wow, People Make the World Go Round and You Make Me Feel Brand New.

Later in the 70s, productions by Hugo & Luigi and arrangements by Van McCoy steered the sound toward lighter, danceable textures without losing the melodic spine. On stage today, founding members Airrion Love and Herb Murrell carry that lineage with Jason Sharp, reconnecting with the ballads and crossover hits that defined their first decade while opening into the smoother grooves of their late-70s period. The set leans on stacked harmonies, carefully drawn arrangements and songs that still travel well from intimate slow jams to polished mid-tempo cuts.
