Sigur Rós plays Edinburgh Playhouse in Edinburgh on 31 August 2026. The Icelandic post-rock group, built around Jón Þór “Jónsi” Birgisson and bassist Georg Hólm, sculpts long-form pieces where bowed guitar, falsetto vocals and slow-bloom dynamics meet ambient drift and minimalist motifs. On stage, the band stretches and reframes its catalog, letting fragile drones, piano figures and granular electronics open onto dense swells of guitars, strings and brass. Jónsi’s bowed riffs arc over hushed passages, lyrics sliding between Icelandic and the group’s invented “Hopelandic,” while an expanded live lineup thickens the harmonies and pulse. The set draws from albums such as Ágætis byrjun, the untitled ( ), Takk…, Valtari, Kveikur and Átta, with a focus on space, reverb and light, moving between intimacy and release.
