Formed in mid-70s Los Angeles around the television show Soul Train, the group moved quickly from a studio idea to a vocal trio rooted in R&B and soul-funk. Early releases like Uptown Festival and Disco Gardens carried a disco drive, before Big Fun and Three for Love sharpened a blend of funk, soul and pop built for clubs and close harmonies. With Friends and The Look, Shalamar folded in early‑80s electronics, mixing ballads and uptempo cuts, while Jeffrey Daniel’s stage moves helped spread new street-dance styles in the UK.
