Alison Moyet

Alison Moyet brings her unmistakable contralto to Sheffield City Hall on 6 October 2026. First heard in the early 80s as half of synth-pop duo Yazoo with Vince Clarke, she went on to build a solo catalogue where pop, soul and blues meet electronic pulse and classic instrumentation. From the polished contours of Alf and Raindancing to the more direct writing of Hoodoo and Essex, then the reflective Hometime and the orchestral covers of Voice, her path traces four decades of clear, finely crafted songs. More recent albums The Minutes and Other, made with producer Guy Sigsworth, reconnect with a darker, pared-back electronic tone.

On stage, Moyet usually draws from every phase: Yazoo cuts alongside solo favourites, intimate synth textures next to fuller band arrangements. The set moves between taut machine beats, torch-song poise and blues-tinged pop, always carried by that low, resonant timbre that defines her sound. A chance to hear a songwriter and singer revisit the tracks that shaped her journey, in a room built for voices like hers.
