Born on the Lower East Side in the early 80s around guitarist Vinnie Stigma and vocalist Roger Miret, Agnostic Front helped shape New York hardcore with direct, compact songs fuelled by punk, Oi! and flashes of thrash. From Victim in Pain and Cause for Alarm to Warriors and more recent releases, their lyrics stay close to street reality: unity, everyday pressure, social tensions. Still anchored by the Miret–Stigma tandem, the band plays fast and hard, with clipped riffs and a raw, front-and-centre vocal delivery that keeps their NYHC DNA intact.
Formed in Houston in 1982 before moving to San Francisco, D.R.I. — Dirty Rotten Imbeciles — stands at the junction of hardcore punk and thrash metal. With Kurt Brecht on vocals and Spike Cassidy on guitar, they moved from the short shocks of Dirty Rotten EP/LP and Violent Pacification to the tighter crossover of Dealing with It!, Crossover, 4 of a Kind and Thrash Zone. Lean, rapid and riff-driven, D.R.I. pushes a sound that sits at the core of crossover thrash, all tension, speed and no-frills impact.
