Info
David Essex heads to Theatre Royal & Royal Concert Hall in Nottingham on 15 September 2026 for a concert that revisits the songs and stories that shaped his path across pop, rock and musical theatre. Singer, songwriter and actor, he first broke through on stage with Godspell, then on screen in That’ll Be the Day, before Rock On in 1973 set a sound that blended glam-tinged British pop and rock’n’roll with supple, narrative vocals. The set looks back to the classic LP run — Rock On, David Essex, All the Fun of the Fair, Out on the Street, Imperial Wizard — and opens onto later chapters, from Be-Bop the Future to Cover Shot, with a nod to his collaborations, including Jeff Wayne’s Musical Version of The War of the Worlds and creating Che in Evita. Expect a mix of early strut and more melodic cuts, carried by a writing style that favors hooks, groove and character-driven lyrics, and the stage presence of an artist equally at home in the studio, on tour and under theatre lights.
