Info
JPEGMAFIA lands at MTELUS in Montréal on October 15, 2026, with a live show built on sharp contrasts and restless inventiveness. Born in Brooklyn to a Jamaican family, Barrington DeVaughn Hendricks moved through New York, Louisiana and a stint in the US Air Force before settling in Baltimore, where he shaped the politically charged energy that runs through his early tapes. First releasing music as Devon Hendryx, he adopted the JPEGMAFIA name in 2015 and carved a lane mixing experimental hip-hop, industrial edges, glitch, warped R&B and lo-fi textures.
Across Black Ben Carson, Veteran, All My Heroes Are Cornballs and LP!, his catalog favors abrupt tempo shifts, cut-and-paste production, and the interplay between controlled aggression, dry irony and floating melodies. Collaborations have been selective: the joint project with Danny Brown, Scaring the Hoes, and the follow-up I Lay Down My Life for You extended that approach while keeping a hands-on, self-produced feel. On stage he tends to perform solo, twisting beats in real time, flipping samples and leaning into sudden pivots that keep the room alert. A set that moves quickly, blurs borders between rap and noise, and treats the venue like a studio session, in the moment.
