Whitechapel and Sylosis play The Academy, Dublin, on 26 January 2027. Formed in 2006 in Knoxville, Whitechapel built its sound on a three-guitar setup and Phil Bozeman’s vocals, rooted in American deathcore. From The Somatic Defilement and This Is Exile through A New Era of Corruption and the self-titled album, the band tightened its technical edge while keeping heavy breaks and dense rhythms. Our Endless War and Mark of the Blade added more groove and shifts in tempo, and with The Valley (2019) and Kin (2021) they opened up to cleaner vocals and atmospheric layers without dropping the core weight. On stage, that mix of guttural power, precise riffing and newer melodic colors frames a set that moves between impact and tension.
Formed in Reading in the early 2000s, Sylosis blends thrash metal, melodic death elements and a touch of prog under the lead of guitarist-singer Josh Middleton. Fast riffs, twin-guitar harmonies and extended structures drive their writing, from Conclusion of an Age (2008) to Edge of the Earth (2011) and Monolith (2012). Dormant Heart (2015), Cycle of Suffering (2020) and A Sign of Things to Come (2023) push darker tones and metalcore-leaning accents while keeping a tight, technical base. After a pause linked to Middleton’s role in Architects, the band returned to touring with arrangements that balance speed, atmospheric passages and sharp, aggressive vocals.
