George Dalaras - Rembetiko

On 1 May 2026 at Filadelfia Convention Center in Stockholm, George Dalaras brings rembetiko to the foreground. Born in Piraeus in a family where music was a second language, and son of rembetiko singer Loukas Daralas, he has carried this repertoire from the port districts to international stages without losing its edge. Often called the Greek blues, rembetiko tells stories of exile, love and everyday struggle; Dalaras delivers it with a voice that shifts from grainy warmth to clear resolve, letting the melodies breathe while the rhythms hold tight.

The concert moves through cornerstones of the genre and newer arrangements that keep the tradition alive, with bouzouki and guitars weaving around his phrasing. Between hushed ballads and driving riffs, he draws a line from smoky cafés of the early 20th century to today’s listeners, giving each song space to speak. An intimate, no-frills set where lyrics and timbre lead, and where past and present meet in a music that remains direct, tender and human.
