15 years already!

Petit Bain is celebrating its 15th anniversary, like a passage, a threshold. A birthday that announces itself like a rite of unruly steps. To mark this milestone, Petit Bain invites you to four days of celebration — to gather, rethink the world, a joyful and activist fête, a celebration to imagine the future together.

A suspended moment between what has been and what is already being invented, with a programme conceived as an initiatory ritual, a collective crossing. Four days to meet, transform and look far ahead.

We welcome, we take care of one another, we sing together, we bring family together in the broadest sense.

Day 1

Astéréotypie

It all began more than ten years ago with a poetry workshop. Christophe Lhuillier was then an educator at the medical-educational institute (IME) in Bourg-la-Reine: "We started a writing workshop with my colleague Claire. From the very first session, their texts and the way they recited them inspired us, and I began adding music."

After a first self-produced album released online in 2012, they met members of the band Moriarty during a workshop at the IME: Arthur Gillette and Eric Dubessay fell under their spell and became Astéréotypie’s bassist and drummer respectively, alongside Christophe on guitar and Benoît Guivarc’h on keyboards. They then joined the independent label Air Rytmo (created by the members of Moriarty), which produced their second album L’énergie positive des dieux in 2017.

The documentary of the same name, directed by journalist Lætitia Møller who follows them from the IME to concert halls, offers the audience context and won several awards. It accompanied the release of their third record, Aucun mec ne ressemble à Brad Pitt dans la Drôme, in spring 2022, which received a warm public reception and critical success.

Since then, Astéréotypie has toured stages and festivals across France. After ten years of existence, the collective finally found its audience and is now regarded as a full-fledged band. Their new album, Patami, is about to be released.

Boutique Feelings

Steeped in elements of psychedelia, built around ethereal soundscapes and propelling sharply melodic rhymes, Boutique Feelings’ music (Montréal, QC) invites reflection on sociopolitical norms while proposing an alternative take on hip-hop.

Better known as the singer, keyboardist and guitarist of the progressive psych-rock outfit Atsuko Chiba, Karim Lakhdar continues here to blend genres by combining hip-hop components with krautrock and electroacoustic elements in his new project, Boutique Feelings. Bypassing traditional composition methods, he explores themes of cultural and personal identity, offering a talkative yet off-kilter narration through cleverly saturated, ear-catching lines. Lakhdar notes that “the genesis of the project stems from a love of hip-hop and influences ranging from OutKast and Madlib to Kim Gordon and Gorillaz.” The result is music on the edges of rap, psychedelic funk, trip-hop and sampling.

The third single from Boutique Feelings, titled “I.Y.W.M.”, is now available via Mothland, completing the Montreal rapper-producer’s eponymous first EP.
