Discover Echoes of the Tides by Yo-E Ryou in the music box at the Plateau de collections. This work unfolds through sound, breath, and duration, exploring the spaces of encounter and resonance between bodies, water, and memory. Living on Jeju Island, South Korea, the artist went to engage with the knowledge of the Haenyeo, a community of women divers. Rather than attempting to reproduce what is visible on the surface, the 2025 sound residency laureate Yo-E Ryou focuses on what acts in depth, through waiting, rest, breathing, and return. This knowledge is transmitted, indeed, outside any written form, in rhythm with the tides, affectionate gestures, shared labor, and rest. Rather than offering a figurative representation of their practices, her installation invites another form of attention: a perception of what is felt before it is visible, and knowledge held by the body before it is named. Here, breath is not merely a sound, but a form of relation. A way of being with others, human and non-human, over time. You are invited to enter, to sit down, and to listen at your own pace. There is neither beginning nor end; only the slow unfolding of presence. Learn more about the sound residency Learn more about Yo-E Ryou's project.
