Info
A leading figure in French-language reggae since the 1990s, Yaniss Odua brings roots and dancehall into dialogue in both French and Creole. His writing blends observations of social realities, everyday narratives and a strong attachment to the Caribbean, with phrasing that alternates between melodic singing and the energetic delivery of toasting. Having passed through the sound-system scene before forming a live band and establishing steady studio work, he has shaped a sound where Jamaican, Antillean and metropolitan French influences intersect. From Yon pa yon (2002) to Un autre soleil (2013) and Moment idéal (2017), his trajectory draws a clear line toward modern reggae. With Stay High (2022) he adds more contemporary textures to the rhythms and arrangements without abandoning the reggae-dancehall axis.
On 14 November 2026 at the Big Band Café in Hérouville-Saint-Clair, Yaniss Odua will be presenting a repertoire that moves between classics and new productions. On the bill are grooves polished by riddims, open harmonies and a precise flow crafted for the stage. It’s an evening to experience the dynamic that links his conscious songs to brighter vibes, carried by a vocal approach that can both caress and hit.
