Info
Roméo & Juliette has already brought together more than 11 million spectators worldwide. Translated into 18 languages and performed in 20 countries, the show has established itself as a landmark of French musical theatre. Launched in 2001 at the Palais des Congrès, the production has entered the collective memory, embodied from the outset by the duo Damien Sargue and Cécilia Cara.
Roméo & Juliette gives audiences the chance to see its original duo back on stage. For Cécilia, returning to Paris with Roméo & Juliette is emotional: "I was chosen at 15 to play Juliet, a foundational role that marked the start of my life as an artist. Meeting her again twenty years later, alongside Damien, was a very strong moment, as if we had never parted, but had been enriched by everything life has given us. This return has a symbolic value: closing the circle, coming back to where it all began, with 25 years of experience that now nourish the characters differently. The story continues to bring people together, to convey love and emotion. It is a joy to rediscover Juliet and to reunite with the French audience." In the same vein, Damien adds: "Returning to Paris after taking Roméo & Juliette around the world, notably in Asia, has a particular resonance. This role has accompanied me since 2001, and finding it again today alongside Cécilia, with the perspective and maturity that time has given us, gives this adventure a new depth."
With more than 9 million records sold and songs tied to French pop culture, including Les Rois du monde and Aimer, Roméo & Juliette has left its mark on the history of musical theatre. For nearly 25 years, the show has traveled across cultures and adapted to the evolutions of its era: new techniques, new stage codes, new audience expectations. True to its DNA while renewing itself, it preserves what defines it: well-known songs, a broad aesthetic and a strong sense of spectacle.
For Gérard Presgurvic, Roméo & Juliette remains a universal and timeless love story: "It poses a timely question: how far are we willing to go for love? Shakespeare answers it with a force that crosses the centuries, and it is this emotion that we continue to share with the audience. Having the chance to reunite Damien Sargue and Cécilia Cara, more than twenty years after their debuts, brings a new depth to the show, nourished by the experience they have acquired. Roméo & Juliette is, for me as for the company, a lifelong adventure."
Announcing the return of Roméo & Juliette is not a mere renewal. In 2027, the show returns in a reimagined version, incorporating new generational codes while preserving its essence: a timeless story, universal emotions and a recognised musical signature. This return comes with a new cast, new costumes and a new scenography, redesigned for today, without touching the show's DNA. Roméo & Juliette will be presented on 18 March 2028 at 7:30 PM at Palais Nikaïa.
