On 1 October 2026, Yard Act takes over La Cigale in Paris. Originating in Leeds, the quartet has established itself within the new wave of British post‑punk since 2020. With James Smith on vocals and Ryan Needham on bass, the band has developed a narrative songwriting style in which social observation and irony rub up against dry, precise rhythms and a spoken delivery, honed across two albums and extensive tours.
With Where’s My Utopia? Yard Act broadened its palette: less angular, more playful, the sound gains in breadth and this is evident on stage. Backing singers who dance, additional musicians, more expansive arrangements — the set acquires greater depth without losing the tension of its early work. The tracks slide from sharp post‑punk toward more pop-driven pulses while retaining the sense of storytelling that is the band’s hallmark.
Currently in the studio with producer Justin Meldal‑Johnsen working on a third album, Yard Act is shaping a live show that remains rooted in its origins while opening up to new colours. At La Cigale, that dynamic is clear: biting songwriting, a taut groove and a collective energy that expands the frame without flattening it.
