On 25 September 2026, Scotiabank Arena in Toronto hosts Weezer: The Gathering, with Rivers Cuomo’s band joined by The Shins and Silversun Pickups.
Weezer formed in Los Angeles in 1992 and has moved between alt-rock tension and power-pop clarity ever since. From the Blue Album and the rawer Pinkerton to the Green Album, then Everything Will Be Alright in the End, OK Human, Van Weezer and the SZNZ cycle, the quartet lines up crunchy guitars, tight choruses and a writing streak that flips between irony and melancholy.
The Shins, built around James Mercer since the late 1990s, bring indie pop with clean guitars, nimble melodies and careful studio detail. Oh, Inverted World and Chutes Too Narrow set the tone, Wincing the Night Away broadened the palette, and later albums like Port of Morrow and Heartworms kept the focus on precise songwriting and Mercer’s flexible voice.
Silversun Pickups, from Silver Lake in Los Angeles, weave saturated guitars and shoegaze-tinged textures into a dense, dream-leaning rock. After Pikul and Carnavas, the band pushed the formula on Swoon and Neck of the Woods, then folded in more electronic colors on Better Nature, Widow’s Weeds and Physical Thrills, balancing noise, atmosphere and melody.
