The Meltdown

On 19 November 2026, The Meltdown arrives in Rouen for a concert at Le 106. Based in Melbourne, the band led by singer and keyboardist Simon Burke crafts a soul infused with country, gospel and rhythm and blues. The songwriting favors slow tempos and stories that take their time, supported by a spare rhythm section and brass that frames without overplaying. Between 1960s soul influences, touches of Americana and contemporary arrangements, their sound moves straight ahead with careful attention to texture and space.

Spotted via the label HopeStreet Recordings, The Meltdown laid its groundwork with a self-titled debut album in 2017 before returning in 2023 with It’s A Long Road, which delves into a more melancholic, narrative vein. Live, the band weaves this trajectory: soul and country-soul answering one another, adult pop with a mellow timbre, saxophone and trumpet lines that highlight the melodies without weighing them down. Simon Burke’s voice remains at the center, a guiding thread between ballads and measured grooves, for a set conceived in detail, balancing embraced classicism with a contemporary sensibility.
