Info

On 15 November 2026 the Soweto Gospel Choir will perform at the Cirque Royal in Brussels. The choir, founded in Soweto in 2002 by David Mulovhedzi and Beverly Bryer, brings together more than thirty voices in a repertoire that blends South African gospel, African‑American spirituals, reggae and pop arrangements. Live, the emphasis is on ensemble singing with strong rhythms and call‑and‑response, driven by an immediate, collective choral sound.

Their career gained momentum after the 46664 concert for Nelson Mandela, followed by appearances at Live Earth and at the 2010 World Cup draw in Cape Town. On stage they move between intimate harmonies and full choirs, drawing on albums such as Voices from Heaven, Blessed, African Spirit, Grace, Freedom, Hope and History of House (with Latroit and Groove Terminator).

The collective has also appeared with Peter Gabriel and Thomas Newman on Down to Earth (WALL‑E), with Christopher Tin on Baba Yetu, and contributed Valley of Tears to the Fats Domino tribute album. In Brussels that wide horizon comes together in a set where tradition and pop culture meet, focusing on voice, rhythm and a tangible group energy.
