On 30 July 2026 at the Théâtre de la Mer in Sète, a meeting between the afro-electro of Nana Benz from Togo and the afro-pop of Fatoumata Diawara.
Nana Benz, an all-female collective based in Lomé, weaves a sound in which traditional singing, percussion inspired by ritual rhythms and synthetic textures move forward together. Voices respond in choral and lead lines, playing on repetition, breaks and the alternation between spoken and sung passages. Rooted in Togolese languages and cadences, they glide from slow trance to tempos close to club music, in constant dialogue with local producers and diasporas. It’s a way of embracing the city, its popular forms and oral heritage, without separating dance from contemplation.
A singer, songwriter and composer, Fatoumata Diawara shapes a modern afro-pop nourished by wassoulou, Mandinka blues, soul and subtle electronics. Her clear voice carries forthright lyrics about the condition of women, exile and identity, written in a direct style. Between tradition and contemporary sounds, she has forged a path that has led her to collaborate with Oumou Sangaré, Damon Albarn, Gorillaz, Disclosure and -M-. On stage, supple grooves and generous melodies support songs that speak to the body as much as to the mind.
