On 25 April 2026 at Beta2300 in Copenhagen, two US death metal outfits share the bill: Vastum and Torture Rack.
Vastum, from the San Francisco Bay Area, shape a dark, abrasive death metal built on dense riffing, heavy tempos and a dialogue of guttural voices. Old-school roots meet doom-leaning slow sections and sudden bursts of speed, serving lyrics that probe the body, sexuality, trauma and the psyche. From Carnal Law (2011) through Patricidal Lust (2013) and Hole Below (2015), the band set a framework they pushed further on Orificial Purge (2019) and Inward to Gethsemane: The Scission of Souls (2023), deepening contrasts and atmosphere while keeping the music direct.
From Portland, Torture Rack goes for blunt impact: slow-to-mid tempos, thick, grinding guitars and cavernous vocals with gore-soaked imagery. After early demos, Barbaric Persecution (2015) locked in their early-90s-inflected approach, tightened on Malefic Humiliation (2018) and pressed even harder on Primeval Onslaught (2023) via 20 Buck Spin. On stage, the focus stays on compact structures, repetition used like a weapon and a deliberately physical sound that favors weight over ornament.
