On Saturday, June 6, 2026, Le Kilowatt in Vitry-sur-Seine brings together Labess, Omar Souleyman, Hamid El Kasri and Les Dames du Raï.
Labess, “tout va bien” ("everything’s fine" in Arabic), blends Gypsy rumba, flamenco, gnawa and chaâbi. Carried by Nedjim Bouizzoul’s voice, the group sings—in Arabic, French and Spanish—stories of exile and of the ties between homelands and host countries. Born in Algiers and having moved to Quebec at 18, Bouizzoul draws from these journeys a clear, warm poetry.
Omar Souleyman, a leading figure of electrified dabke, returns with Erbil (2024), an album dedicated to the city that welcomed him. With his long-time keyboardist Hasan Jamo Alo, he offers eight tracks in which a techno pulse and dabke intertwine. His direct, repetitive vocal style carries a local festivity onto today’s electronic stages.
Maâlem Hamid El Kasri dives into the heart of the Gnawa repertoire. An earthy guembri, echoing qraqeb and a deep voice shape a fluid trance that balances spirituality with communal energy.
Les Dames du Raï revive the story of the pioneers who, in Algeria, challenged conventions and shaped this free-spirited genre. Backed by two singers and an orchestra, their songs revisit the legacies of cheikhate such as Rimitti, Djenia, Rabia, Zohra, Fadéla and Zahouania. It is a journey to the roots of a popular raï, carried by women’s voices.
