Info

Formed in Sacramento in the early 1990s, Cake will perform at L’Olympia in Paris on 26 September 2026, presenting songs with a stripped-down aesthetic: an alternative rock that draws on country, funk and indie pop, built on repetitive motifs and dry rhythms. Around John McCrea’s half-spoken, half-sung voice, Vince DiFiore’s trumpet and a prominently forward bass shape an instantly recognizable sound, made of acoustic guitars, restrained riffs and a low-key irony.

On stage, the band alternates between original songs and reworked covers, moving between everyday vignettes and nods to popular culture. From the path opened by Motorcade of Generosity and Fashion Nugget to later albums — Prolonging the Magic, Comfort Eagle, Pressure Chief, Showroom of Compassion — the line has remained clear: write short, go straight to the motif, favor mid‑tempo grooves over showmanship. At L’Olympia, you’ll find that same blend of laid-back rhythm and tightly honed arrangements, driven by a precise rhythm section and a trumpet that accentuates the melodies without weighing them down. A Parisian date that puts Cake’s singular sound front and center, without frills.
