Christina Branco

Cristina Branco brings her fado to Muziekgebouw Eindhoven on 3 April 2026. Born in Almeirim (Ribatejo, 1972), she found her way to the genre after an early love of jazz and chanson, prompted by the discovery of Amália Rodrigues. In the Netherlands she made her first mark with the live album Cristina Branco in Holland (1997), the starting point of a trajectory in which tradition and renewal come together. Since then she has built her own universe with records such as Murmúrios, Corpo Iluminado, Ulisses, Menina, Branco and Eva, often in close collaboration with guitarist Custódio Castelo. On stage, Branco emphasises the power of the word: clear diction, acoustic, spare arrangements and plenty of space for lyrics and melody. Between classic fados, new compositions and musical settings of Portuguese poets, she lets the genre breathe, drawing on influences from jazz, folk and art song. In Eindhoven she will present a programme that traverses different phases of her repertoire, where the intimate character of her “chamber fado” is central and each song carries its own story.
