Weval

On 28 March 2026, Weval will play at SPOT/De Oosterpoort in Groningen. The Amsterdam duo of Harm Coolen and Merijn Scholte Albers moved in the early 2010s from visual work to sound: electronics at the intersection of slow house and alternative pop, featuring warm synth textures, smooth basslines and processed vocals as a melodic element. With the EP Half Age (2013, Atomnation) they caught the attention of Kompakt, releasing tracks such as “Easier” and their self-titled debut album (2016), followed by The Weight (2019). Changed for the Better (2020) marked tighter song structures and a greater sense of tension; Time Goes (2023, Technicolour/Ninja Tune) continues that trajectory with tracks that work as well in clubs as in living rooms. Live, Weval translates this into layered, organically built sets: slowly rolling grooves, breathing breaks and hooks that shift subtly. The Groningen set focuses on new material and reworkings from their catalogue, emphasizing dynamics and harmonic nuance, crafted for the stage and for listeners who want to catch the details.
