Garbage

Garbage will play on 14 June 2026 at TivoliVredenburg in Utrecht. Since 1993, producers and multi-instrumentalists Butch Vig, Duke Erikson and Steve Marker have formed a band with Scottish frontwoman Shirley Manson that marries alternative rock with electronic textures and sharp pop instincts. With their self-titled debut from 1995 and its follow-up Version 2.0 (1998), Garbage established a distinctive signature: gritty guitars, programmed rhythms, carefully layered studio arrangements and Manson’s cool, assured vocal line. The James Bond song “The World Is Not Enough” (1999) broadened their reach without losing that tension between dark and catchy.

They then moved into a more straightforward rock phase with Beautifulgarbage (2001) and Bleed Like Me (2005), followed by a pause and a restart on their own terms with Not Your Kind of People (2012), Strange Little Birds (2016) and No Gods No Masters (2021). On stage, Garbage keeps that hybrid approach tight: analog and digital collide and merge, trip-hop undercurrents color the rhythms, industrial edges push the guitars, and the melodies remain hooky. Manson steers it with clear phrasing and a dry, almost cinematic timbre, while Vig, Erikson and Marker translate the studio’s production energy into the live sound. A set that places their past and more recent work side by side without nostalgia.
