Snarky Puppy

On 30 August 2026 Snarky Puppy is scheduled to appear at SPOT/De Oosterpoort in Groningen. The collective around bassist and composer Michael League operates like a flexible orchestra: a rotating clan of often ten or more musicians with horns, keyboards, guitars and a solid rhythm section. Since their early days in Denton, Texas, the band has forged its own instrumental language between jazz fusion, funk, Afro‑Latin, rock and R&B, where tight patterns and free improvisation continually challenge one another.

Live, the focus is on layered arrangements, pulsing grooves and melodies that unfold to make room for solos. Themes are built up, stripped down and reintroduced in new ways, while the band shifts in real time between precision and the sheer joy of playing. Echoes of We Like It Here, Culcha Vulcha and Empire Central run through their rich discography, and the link with the Netherlands resonates via Sylva, their collaboration with the Metropole Orkest. The Family Dinner series underscores that open approach: Snarky Puppy thinks as a collective that forms itself in the moment.
