Info
On 15 March 2026 The Divine Comedy will perform at the Stadthalle in Cologne as part of the European Tour 2026. The name represents Northern Irish songwriter Neil Hannon, who since the late 1980s has developed a pop idiom situated between chamber music and the British song tradition. His songs blend strings and piano with literary allusions and present small vignettes of everyday life, clearly structured and delivered with dry wit.
From the early albums Liberation and Promenade through Casanova and Fin de Siècle to Regeneration, Absent Friends and Victory for the Comic Muse, the sound has shifted repeatedly—sometimes closer to rock, at other times more elaborately arranged. More recent releases such as Bang Goes the Knighthood, Foreverland and Office Politics continue this trajectory.
Live, The Divine Comedy is built around Hannon in variable line-ups, ranging from a conventional band setup to string ensembles. In Cologne the programme will present a cross-section of the repertoire: narrative pop songs, orchestral accents and melodic motifs from more than three decades, alternating between chamber-pop numbers and more forceful passages.
