Levellers - 35 Years Levelling the Land

On 16 October 2026, the Levellers will celebrate 35 years of Levelling the Land at the Live Music Hall in Cologne. The Brighton-based band has blended folk, punk energy and Celtic hues since the late 1980s: fiddle to the fore, punchy guitars, communal choruses and lyrics that address social and political issues. Their path ran from the early A Weapon Called the Word (1990) to the defining Levelling the Land (1991), whose songs still form the backbone of their concerts.

In the 1990s the Levellers followed up with Levellers (1993), Zeitgeist (1995) and Mouth to Mouth (1997), along with a strong live presence on festival stages. From the 2000s onward the band alternated between electric and acoustic sounds: Hello Pig, Green Blade Rising, Truth & Lies, Letters from the Underground and Static on the Airwaves broadened their range; later, We the Collective (2018) with semi-acoustic arrangements and Peace (2020) introduced new emphases. Live shows condense all of this into a compact set: fiddle riffs, driving rhythms, sing-along hooks and quieter passages interlock, while classics are interwoven with newer material. An evening that makes the album’s history and the enduring pulse of the Levellers’ British folk-rock unmistakably audible.
