Info
DeVotchKa lands at Longboat Hall in Toronto on September 14, 2026. Born out of Denver’s indie scene in the late 90s, the band formed around singer and songwriter Nick Urata with Tom Hagerman, Jeanie Schroder and Shawn King, a core quartet that often widens on stage. Their sound folds indie rock into Eastern European folk, mariachi accents, Balkan turns and a hint of cabaret, with a taste for orchestral arrangements and tempo shifts that keep the music moving.
From early records like SuperMelodrama and Una Volta to How It Ends, the group has grown a catalog that travelled well beyond the alternative circuit, helped by film and TV placements and the score for Little Miss Sunshine. A Mad & Faithful Telling and 100 Lovers pushed the writing toward strings, brass and swaying rhythms, while the live collaboration with the Colorado Symphony underlined their orchestral leanings. With This Night Falls Forever, DeVotchKa tightened the frame without losing the mix of urgency and melancholy that runs through their work. On stage, Urata’s tremolo voice leads songs that bloom from intimate to widescreen, carried by multi‑instrumental twists and a band that treats folk traditions and pop hooks with the same care.
