Hiromi

On June 29, 2026, at Théâtre Maisonneuve in Montréal, Hiromi presents a program centered on the piano, fluidly moving between jazz idioms, classical forms and electric timbres. Born and raised in Hamamatsu and discovered by Chick Corea at seventeen, she honed her voice at Berklee with encouragement from Ahmad Jamal. Her trajectory spans nimble trios, amplified ensembles and returns to solo performance, reflected in recordings such as Time Control with Sonicbloom, the solo albums Place to Be and Spectrum, the string-driven Silver Lining Suite, and the soundtrack to the film Blue Giant. In concert, her writing is crisp and rhythmically incisive, marked by rapid harmonic shifts and an active exchange between acoustic piano and keyboards. The music consistently balances momentum and space, collective interplay and focused melody. Whether she remains acoustic or introduces electric elements, the performance unfolds a contemporary jazz language shaped by pulse, motif and in-the-moment improvisation.
