Death Cab for Cutie bring their finely crafted indie rock to Toronto, joined by Japanese Breakfast, for a summer night at RBC Amphitheatre, 909 Lake Shore Boulevard West, on July 19, 2026.
Formed in Bellingham in 1997 around singer-guitarist Ben Gibbard, Death Cab for Cutie shaped a sound where melodic guitars, understated keys and steady rhythms carry close-up, reflective lyrics. From the early lo-fi of Something About Airplanes to the expansive writing of Transatlanticism, then Plans, Narrow Stairs and Codes and Keys, the band has kept moving with Kintsugi, Thank You for Today and Asphalt Meadows. On stage, Gibbard’s clear voice anchors songs that shift between quiet tension and ringing, open choruses.
Japanese Breakfast is the project of Michelle Zauner, launched in the mid-2010s as a more personal space after Little Big League. Blending indie pop and dream pop with synth-led textures, she moves from the intimate pulse of Psychopomp to the spacious Soft Sounds from Another Planet and the warmer palette of Jubilee, and also signs the Sable video game soundtrack. Live, Zauner leads a tight band that balances sharp hooks with airy, cinematic atmospheres.
