Formed in Chicago in the late 1990s, the band threads punk rock and melodic hardcore with Tim McIlrath’s sharp vocals out front and the backbone of Joe Principe, Zach Blair and Brandon Barnes. From the urgency of The Unraveling and Revolutions per Minute to the more anthemic shapes of Siren Song of the Counter Culture and The Sufferer & the Witness, then Appeal to Reason, Endgame and Nowhere Generation, their catalog balances speed and mid-tempo weight. The lyrics look straight at social tensions, US politics and personal dilemmas, carried by melodies that keep the edge intact.
Opening are Destroy Boys, the Sacramento trio built around Alexia Roditis and Violet Mayugba. Raised on DIY rooms and alternative scenes, they push a fast, melodic punk that folds in pop-punk, garage and grunge. From Sorry, Mom and Make Room to Open Mouth, Open Heart, they write plainly about identity, relationships, gendered violence and mental health, bringing a raw energy that fits the night and the room.
