Shad marks two decades in rap with the 20th Anniversary / Start Anew Tour, landing at Commonwealth, 731 10 Avenue Southwest, Calgary, on January 24, 2026. Born in Kenya to Rwandan parents and raised in London, Ontario, the Canadian MC has shaped a body of work where boom-bap drums, soul and jazz textures meet introspection, everyday stories and social reflection. From the self-released debut When This Is Over (2005) through The Old Prince (2007), TSOL (2010) and Flying Colours (2013), to the more conceptual A Short Story About a War (2018) and Tao (2021), his writing circles questions of identity, faith, migration and inequality while keeping a melodic thread. On stage he often performs with DJ T.LO, alternating uptempo pieces and calmer cuts suited to a live room. Also active as a host and documentarian of hip-hop’s history, he brings that angle to the mic. A tour drawing on twenty years of songs and opening a new chapter.
