Fat Freddy's Drop

Fat Freddy’s Drop brings their suitcases to X-TRA Zurich on 4 October 2026. The seven-piece from Wellington has fashioned a signature in which reggae and dub blend with soul, jazz and electronic music, driven by a warm brass section, a supple bass and Dallas Tamaira’s deep voice. On stage, the band stretches out the grooves, plays with dynamics and leaves room for improvisation, turning each piece into a progressive journey amid beds of keyboards, delay effects and melodic lines that settle in naturally.

From Based on a True Story to Blackbird and Bays, their repertoire has grown with tracks that take on a new dimension live. The rhythm locks onto dub pulses, the arrangements are reinvented and transitions flow with ease — like a long mix conceived for dancing and listening. This stop in Zurich will showcase their collective sensibility, a songwriting that favours patient builds over easy tricks, and that distinct New Zealand grain of theirs at the crossroads of soundsystems and modern soul scenes.
