On 19 May 2026, the Scène nationale du Sud-Aquitain in Bayonne welcomes Ballaké Sissoko and Piers Faccini. Twenty years after their first collaboration, they reunite around Our Calling, released in February 2025, for a musical tête‑à‑tête in which the kora and guitar shape songs on the border between tradition and contemporary folk.
Ballaké Sissoko, a Malian musician, places the kora at the heart of the dialogue: cyclical motifs, a subtle pulse, and melodic lines that open up the space. His playing anchors the duo in the Mandé heritage while leaving room for improvisation and exchange.
Opposite him, Piers Faccini, an Italian‑British songwriter, brings a clear voice, woody guitars, and a songwriting style that favors stripped‑down forms. Between English, French and Mediterranean echoes, he traces supple refrains and simple imagery.
Together they compose pieces in which each motif answers the other, like a patient conversation. The tracks advance in small waves, moving between instrumentals and songs, and link distant sonic landscapes without overstating the effect.
