Formed in 2002 in Moscow by Masha and Warlock, Arkona pays homage through its music to nature, to pagan beliefs and to the historical past of their country, through metal deeply imbued with folklore. After a first Russian demo, the band's lineup evolves and Masha teams up with members of Nargathrond. Together, they record Revival.
Hardly has the first album landed in stores when Masha devotes herself to composing Lepta, the second album, which sees its release in winter 2004. It is from the third opus, Vo Slavu Velikim, that the band decides to put the synth aside a little and to use traditional ethnic instruments, which gives rise to numerous live and studio collaborations.
Following these three early albums, the band subsequently releases Ot Serdca K Nebu (2007), Goi, Rode, Goi! (2009), Slovo (2011), Yav (2014), Vozrozhdenie (2016) and Khram (2018). Arkona finally returns five years later with its ninth studio album, Kob (2023), released via Napalm Records. The musicians delve into the philosophy of their singer Masha and into her vision of the future, modern existence and humanity, while infusing their music with pagan traditions.
Returning for a European tour, Arkona takes two French black metal acts, Seth and The Great Old Ones, along for a show at Le Ferrailleur in Nantes on December 19, 2026.
