Once upon a time in Leeds, 1981. The March Violets strum their first riff and scrawl their first set list. Their post-punk legacy stretches from 1980s BBC John Peel sessions and indie chart successes Radiant Boys EP, Grooving in Green, Snake Dance and Turn to the Sky (featured in the John Hughes movie Some Kind of Wonderful), through to the 21st century reunion, headlining festivals across Europe and the USA and releasing double albums Big Soul Kiss and Made Glorious.
Founder members Rosie Garland (performer, poet and author) and Tom Ashton (guitarist, producer) are joined by Mat Thorpe (bassist and vocalist). The band has played UK, EU and USA tours, including headline shows at Wave Gotik Treffen (Germany), Levitation (Austin TX), A Murder of Crows (NYC), Southern Gothic (Athens GA), DarkMad (Madrid), Dark Malta, Deadinburgh and Tomorrow’s Ghosts Festival (Whitby Goth Weekend, UK).
In 2024, The March Violets released Crocodile Promises (Metropolis Records), their first album for 10 years, featuring all-new material.
The March Violets will perform at New Cross Inn, London, on Tuesday 10 November 2026, doors 6pm.
