On May 17, 2027 at Dublin’s 3Arena, Simple Minds and Gary Numan share a bill that traces two complementary paths of UK post-punk turned electronic rock.
Still driven by the Jim Kerr–Charlie Burchill core, Simple Minds bring a set that moves between their tense early new wave and the bigger, synth-laced melodic rock they shaped in the ’80s. Expect the kind of writing they refined on New Gold Dream and Sparkle in the Rain: pulsing rhythms, wide-screen atmospheres, guitars that shimmer through the electronics, and those direct hooks that made their live reputation. Their catalogue also leaves room for later chapters, from the 2010s comeback energy through Direction of the Heart.
Gary Numan opens the night with the cold, narrative edge that helped define synth-pop, from the Tubeway Army era to his early solo classics. Over the years his sound has leaned darker and more industrial, and that tension between minimal electronic lines and heavy atmosphere is still the point: sharp grooves, anxious melodies, and a voice built for urban sci-fi unease, now carried into the moodier world of albums like Intruder.
