On May 13, 2027 in Newcastle upon Tyne, Simple Minds bring their long-running Glasgow story back to the stage, still driven by the Kerr–Burchill core. Expect a set that connects the band’s nervous post-punk and art-rock beginnings to the wider, synth-lit sound they shaped in the early ’80s, where atmospheric guitars, repetitive rhythms and direct melodies started to take over. From there, the show naturally opens into their grander, big-room era: expansive arrangements, dense textures, and those songs built for a crowd singalong without losing their edge.
Sharing the bill the same night, Gary Numan arrives with the perspective of a synth-pop pioneer who never froze in time. From the cold, futuristic pulse of his late-’70s breakthrough to the darker, industrial-leaning turn he embraced from the ’90s onward, his live set tends to balance sharp electronic hooks with heavier, mood-driven sound design. Two different ways to make machines feel human, meeting in Newcastle.
