On 9 April 2027, Simple Minds take to the LDLC Arena in Décines-Charpieu to present a repertoire spanning nearly five decades of synth-pop rock. Led by the duo Jim Kerr and Charlie Burchill, the band preserves that blend of atmospheric guitars and electronic textures inherited from Glasgow's post-punk scene, with hypnotic rhythms and writing that has grown increasingly expansive over the years.
On stage, the story unfolds in fast-forward: from nervous, more experimental early new wave beginnings to the grand melodic surges of the 1980s, and through to their recent albums that extend the same taste for direct refrains and swathes of synths. It’s an opportunity to revisit the tracks that have marked their trajectory, including the iconic Don't You (Forget About Me), and to gauge how Simple Minds still connects the original energy to a widescreen, precise and luminous rock sound today.
