On March 19, 2027, at the Leeds Arena, Megadeth arrives with its surgical thrash metal, led from the start by Dave Mustaine. Fast riffs, catchy structures and lyrics that stare the world in the face: politics, war, religion, social paranoia… The band has traversed the ages without loosening this nerve-wracking tension, from Killing Is My Business... and Business Is Good! and Peace Sells... but Who’s Buying? to the more 'classic' period of the 1990s with Rust in Peace and Countdown to Extinction, up to recent albums like Dystopia and The Sick, the Dying... and the Dead!. On stage, the DNA remains the same: precision, speed and a sense of a song that never spins its wheels. In the opening slot, Black Label Society comes to defend its heavy metal tinged with hard rock and blues, built around Zakk Wylde's massive playing. Between thick mid-tempo sections, extended solos and more melodic breaths, the band shifts effortlessly from a frontal riff to an electric ballad, in the vein of records such as Sonic Brew, The Blessed Hellride or Doom Crew Inc.. Testament rounds out the bill with Bay Area thrash: rapid guitars, more technical touches and a melodic sense carried by Chuck Billy's voice. From The Legacy to Practice What You Preach, and through more recent releases like Titans of Creation, the band keeps this blend of power and precision that lands well in a live setting.
