On November 25, 2026, at Hare & Hounds in Birmingham, Cheekface bring their Los Angeles-bred indie rock oddness to the stage. Built around tight, straightforward guitars and clipped rhythms, the trio’s signature comes from that half-spoken, half-sung delivery: lines that land like dry observations, funny without trying too hard, with a tension that keeps the songs moving. Since first breaking out in the late 2010s, they’ve kept things firmly DIY while sharpening the formula across records like Therapy Island, Emphatically No., Too Much to Ask and It’s Sorted.
Special guest Emperor X (Chad Matheny) opens up another lane entirely: lo-fi songwriting that can swing from intimate to abrasive in the same track, with dense lyrics and a deliberately rough edge. Now Berlin-based, the project has been mutating since the late ’90s, balancing indie rock impulses with noise-pop detours and experimental structures.
Also on the bill, Playboy Manbaby push punk and garage into something more angular and absurd, built for fast, sweaty momentum. Their sound thrives on taut riffs, sharp turns and a sense of humour that never softens the impact.
