Info
Zentone, that's it. A project that brings together two visions of dub, while embracing its contradictions and its sonic explorations. A little dub, a little electro, a little world music. And at the same time, none of that really. Born from the fusion of Zenzile and High Tone, two pillars of the French dub scene, and the luminous Jolly Joseph, a multi-instrumentalist singer from the sound-system scene, who cements the band's official formation. Zentone is the incarnation of a collective experimentation. Les Vulves assassines is space-punk-rap, with DJ Conant and MC Vieillard, two screeching female MCs at the machines, and Samy on electric guitar.
Les Vulves assassines make you dance hard, sing along, and bleed your ears. And above all, they make you think. Their two albums, Godzilla 3000 (2019) and Das Kapital (2022), tackle important topics: class struggle, aliens, unemployment, abortion rights, big muscles, and of course love. In 2023, their song La Retraite was widely broadcast at French union demonstrations. Les Vulves assassines embody the hope of a better, fairer world, a world where CAC 40 would be the name of an organic, accessible chocolate beverage. Marxists, feminists, they sing of the future.
Chevreuil is a French rock duo formed in 1998 by Julien F. and Tony C., three years after their meeting at the Nantes School of Fine Arts. From the start, they approached the idea of a group as a performative installation, an autonomous sculptural device dedicated to sound, space and movement, rather than a traditional rock ensemble. Julien and Tony play, respectively, magnetic drums and magnetic guitar, a proto-semantic elaboration of their own, which they compare to a physical phenomenon that instinctively exerts attractive or repulsive forces. Their interaction is minimal and charged, based on reduction, repetition and architectural thinking. Their music works as an assemblage of nested rhythmic and harmonic blocks, interlocking, layered, geometric and structured. Refusing a traditional formation, Chevreuil devised a quadraphonic setup where Tony's guitar runs through four amplifiers surrounding Julien's drums. This configuration lets them play anywhere, with the only requirement being an electrical outlet. The result is both physical and spatial: a minimalist engine of rhythm and resonance that behaves as much like an installation as it does like a band.
Choolers Division are five seasoned scene veterans who, like explorers of the inconceivable, have shed their past and certainties to commit to this musical machinery born of their improbable meeting. Choolers Division is the coupling of atoms, the nuclear fusion between an offbeat abstract hip-hop and a powerful DIY electro sound. On stage, the energy of the two MCs propels the rocket into orbit and leaves terrestrial gravity behind, the usual codes of rap losing their pedals at the heart of this dizzying explosion. Concerto in a Major Key, by the Orphestre Parpaing Val de Loire. The punk producer Meryl Streek released his album Songs for the Deceased, listed by Metal Hammer as one of the ten best punk albums of the last decade. The new album, produced by Dan Doherty (Fontaines D.C.), is available on Venn Records. Meryl Streek has toured with Kneecap, Public Image Ltd, Dead Kennedys, Bob Vylan, Enter Shikari. A unique and explosive live performance.
